Powell Portrait – Spring 2009
Just this morning we read an article about obedience. It is more than a response to complete a command, it is intimacy. An intimacy developed with our Abba Father who calls out to our core being and says, “Draw near to me, love me, know me, follow me, and I will show you unimaginable things which you have never known.”
And so we wait in the stillness of our Father’s arms where strength, courage and hope become reality and are manifest through our hands and feet as we extend them outwardly. It is not about us or what we can do, it is all about Jesus and loving HIM intimately. So in response to Jesus’ love, we said “yes” to His call to go to the uttermost parts of the earth, in other-words, Orange Walk, Belize.
For the next eight weeks, till mid June, our residence will be in Florida. We live in a mobile home on Heavenly Street in Merritt Island where most of our neighbors are also staff with Teen Missions. David has started work at the headquarters and has been doing a number of odd jobs on the property to prepare for the summer teams that will begin arriving on June 6th. Becca has the liberty to stay home with the children and homeschool, but she has decided that the best homeschool that can be accomplished right now is to volunteer their time at the TMI base in whatever need arises. Sarah, Gabriela and Caleb have been very ambitious, and we are delighted to see their servant hearts being so zealous towards the Lord’s work.
The Belize Team is one of the first to arrive at the Florida Boot Camp. Six other teams of about 20-30 teens each will accompany us for two weeks of rigorous training to prepare us for the primitive conditions that may exist on our field of service. On June 22, we fly into Belize City and will take a bus north to the Teen Missions property on Honey Camp Lagoon near Orange Walk town. For the next four weeks our team will be working on a toilet/shower block on the school property. On the weekends, we will be evangelizing through drama, puppetry and personal testimonies in the nearby towns. We will have one other assistant leader who will accompany us to Belize and then escort the teens back to Florida for a short Debrief. We would appreciate prayer for this summer’s activities. Please pray for the health and safety of each of us. Pray for the hearts of these young people to be drawn into a closer walk with Jesus and for team unity among us. Pray that we would be a blessing to the local Belizians and glorify God in all that we are and do.
We are currently at about 50% of our required monthly support in order for us to stay in Belize after the summer team has gone. The Lord has been faithful to provide our daily bread and has worked out every detail to bring us into this “promised land”. Our house in Colorado will close on May 7, our dog found a wonderful home with a good family, and our vehicles and furniture sold just in time. God is never early and never late, He is always on time. If you would like to contribute to our monthly support, you can go on-line and donate at www.teenmissions.org or return the coupon with an enclosed check.
We are so excited about what the Lord is doing as we have watched his miracles unfold and the answers to prayer be manifest before our eyes. We pray that your hearts would be encouraged and your spirits refreshed as you partner with us whether through prayer and/or financially.
Our field address while in Belize after July 20th will be:
Teen Missions, Powell Family, P.O. Box 208, Orange Walk Town, BELIZE, CENTRAL AMERICA. If you are not currently receiving e-mail updates it’s because we don’t have your e-mail address. Please notify us at [email protected] if you would like to be on this contact list. Our communication will be minimal during the summer, but we will keep you posted as often as possible. Our newsletter will be mailed out three times a year. We would love to hear from each of you or better yet, see you for a visit in Belize!
Trusting In His Faithfulness,
David, Becca, Sarah, Gabriela, and Caleb
