The Great Barrier Reef

Well, we have just returned from our trip to the reef where we saw God’s underwater creation at its best. We had about five hours drive time on the way up and stopped off a couple places for lunch and to have a look. Unfortunately, the campground that the US teams usually go to by the beach was fully booked, another campground didn’t really want us as we were a bunch of teens. We did, however, get one a little further inland after I assured them that they were a well disciplined bunch. The team were very well behaved and were a good example of Christian teens to the campground staff. On Wednesday we went onto the boat at 7:30am and departed to Lady Musgrove Island at 8am. It was a pretty rough trip out (1 and a half hour ride) with a lot of passangers sea sick – only one of out team was which was a blessing. The snorkling out on the reef was amazing – very clear water, and lots of fish and corral to see with the snorkel gear. Snacks and lunch were provided for us and we also got to have a walk around on the island. The team saw turtles, and all manner of tropical fish. The trip back wasn’t nearly so bad and everyone had a great night sleep that night. So now we are back at the base and ready for our two last days of work and clean-up before the team heads back to the USA on Monday at lunch time. We will finish off the concrete sidewalks tomorrow and try to do as much as possible to finish off leveling dirt for the sod.
