Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In the words of the prophet: “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) As we forge ahead in our first year on the mission field, we find ourselves embracing this promise and the challenge that Jeremiah presents to us in this familiar passage. We embrace the promises of God’s undying love and faithfulness, understanding the challenge that we cannot rest until the hearts and minds of those who have not heard about God’s love do.
A year ago, Erin looked at Ryan and asked, “Are we really going to be able to stay busy 40 hrs/week as recruiters for Teen Missions?” Now we look back at that conversation and realize what a silly question that was! We have been busy above and beyond what we would have ever imagined and we want to share a few highlights so that you, too, can taste and see that the Lord is good!
God answers prayers in areas we weren’t looking:
Ever since we’ve started our 2010 recruiting season, it has become increasingly obvious to the both of us that we needed some office space outside of the basement apartment in which we live. We had applied for some free ministry office space, but were put on the waiting list because it was all full. Out of the blue, the pastor of a local church offered us free use of some office space at his church in central Portland, much more convenient than the space we applied for. Ryan was able to move in on March 17th! Praise God who is truly our provider, meeting our each and every need.
Conference Connects us with Others in Ministry
In March we were able to attend the Northwest Ministry Conference held in the Seattle area. This conference is designed to provide enrichment for church leaders and workers who are looking to broaden the scope of their respective ministries. It was a fantastic conference for us as well as all 5,000+ who attended! We were able to exhibit and share about our ministry, as well as teach two informational seminars highlighting the importance of short-term missions and the value of having a missions-minded youth group in today’s church. During these seminars, Ryan was able to dialogue directly with over 50 youth pastors and workers. While at the conference we had several exciting leads presented to us. As a direct result of the seminars, Ryan was invited by several youth pastors to come speak to their youth groups. Additionally, Ryan was approached by the principal of a large Christian school in the Seattle area to come share at their chapel(s). As a result of this contact, it’s likely that Ryan will have the opportunity to share the ministry opportunities offered by Teen Missions with 1,500+ students at their various campuses which will result in him sharing with youth from over 200 churches!!! WOW!
A change in direction this summer
When last we wrote, we were very excited about our summer team assignment that would be taking us to Zambia, Africa. However, the Lord had different ideas as we have been reassigned to lead the team to Belize! Following our Boot Camp training, we will serve the Lord in tropical Corozal, Belize, just one mile inland from the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. We will be building an extension onto a local church that will also serve as a hurricane shelter for the people of the village. Midway through the summer, we anticipate relocating to Honey Camp Lagoon at the Teen Missions in Belize BIBLE, MISSIONARY & WORK Training Center, to work alongside the students on various projects at the base. If you want to know more about our upcoming trip, please visit: http://www.teenmissions.org/belize and look for the link on the main website for bi-weekly internet updates we will posting while in Belize this summer!
God is providing!
We would like all of you to know how excited we are in seeing the Lord provide as our monthly financial support is currently at 55% of our projected goal! While we are never sure how God is going to meet our needs, we have never ceased to experience how great is His faithfulness! We’d like to share one way that God demonstrated this to us over the last few months. During one of our trips, we found ourselves stuck in Butte, MT, on a weekend with a broken radiator. God led us to a mechanic shop that was willing to work the weekend to repair it. Additionally, the next church that we were to visit, upon hearing about our circumstances, wrote us a check to help cover the costs of repair! What a blessing to see the Lord provide in such a practical way. We are continuing to accept donations for our kid’s expenses this summer. Due to our change in teams, our need has decreased and we are now at 75% of our projected need for the kids to go to Belize with us. Praise the Lord!
Fast Family Update
Life in Portland is beginning to settle into a routine for us, as much as it can with all the time on the road that we have. A highlight in the last few months is that Abby finally took her first steps. She is now toddling around and spending a lot of time falling, but she is much happier now that she has mastered this milestone. Micah continues in preschool three times a week. His teacher is very pleased with the progress he is making. In April, Micah started swimming lessons. He loves the time in the water and has been doing really well. We anticipate that he’ll be spending a lot of time in the pool this summer at Teen Missions.
Thank you for all of your prayers and support. Without them, we could not accomplish the ministry that the Lord has given us. We would also like to send out a special thanks to those of you who have recently joined our financial support team, we are blessed!
Ryan, Erin, Micah & Abby
• Pray for the hundreds of kids we’ve been in contact with, that they would follow God’s leading onto the mission field.
• Pray for our family as we prepare to lead our team this summer. Pray that we will be sensitive to the Lord’s leading and that the youth on the team will discover what it truly means to serve the Lord.
• Please pray for our vehicle. Our Subaru has over 150,000 miles on it and has been requiring some costly repairs in the past few months. Please pray that we will have wisdom and guidance regarding whether we should continue to repair this vehicle or purchase a newer vehicle with lower mileage. Either way we are praying for God’s provision in a mighty way!
