2004 China Missions TripDates: June 20 – August 8 — Work/Evangelism

Experience an unforgettable summer in the world’s most populous country and one of the most ancient civilizations—China! In addition to sharing the love of Christ, your presence will be an encouragement to those who tirelessly serve in this spiritually-needy country.

Following Boot Camp training, you will bus to the Orlando International Airport and board a flight to TorontoOntarioCanada. From Toronto, your connecting flight takes you over western Canada, the Gulf of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands before arriving in BeijingChina.  A 12-hour bus ride will take you through bustling cities and remote villages to your project site about an hour from Taiyuan City in the Shanxi province.

Your project will be to continue renovations on newly purchased property next to the Joy In The Journey Camp of Evergreen Ministries. Housing will be in dorms with showers available. There will be many opportunities to interact with the campers who come for the week-long English camps. You will share the love of Christ through friendship evangelism with these young people who will want to spend time with you practicing their English. You will also enjoy trying some of the authentic Chinese food that the campers will be eating.

While in China, you will take an overnight train to Xian where you will visit the site of the famous Terra Cotta Warriors which are a collection of life-size statues depicting the armies of the first Emperor of China. There will be an opportunity to practice your bartering skills while buying souvenirs such as t-shirts, swords, fans, and authentic Chinese tea before boarding the overnight train for your trip back to the camp.

Following your project time, you will take the “fast train” (three-hour trip) back to Beijing where you will stay in a youth hostel and have the opportunity to visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Temple of Heaven.

Estimated Project Expense: $4990 U.S. plus $30 Registration Fee

About webmaster

I have been on staff with Teen Missions since Dec. 1978

  1. yeah sorry i noticed that yesterday but im very interested in the mongolia trip, but again could a non religious person go on this trip and if not could you point me to another organization that does these sorts of things?

    • Ryan, We do not screen the team members. However, our primary purpose is to spread the Gospel of Christ wherever we go. We do not require you to be religious, but you will be required to participate in all aspects of our program including Bible memory, Bible studies, private devotions, etc.

  2. hey im interested in doing this but am not a religious person would i still be able to do it? if not do you know another group or organization that i could look into for this?

  3. okay. so when will the 2013 trips get listed on this website??? im also wondering if you are doing any mission trips to help orphans.

  4. Please do this same trip next year!!!! I’m raising $2000 for this trip but i cant go this year because we are moving… I really feel God is calling me to China to help orphans but I have been praying and this is the way to go… Please email me so I can get more info on this boot camp.

  5. If I were to send something to someone for commissioning, how would I do that? do I have to specify that it is for Commissioning? or do they just give packages out at commissioning. I went last year, and im trying to send something to a former teammate. I just don remember how its done. thanks!

  6. So I’ve been looking at this website the whole day! And I think I would really love to go on a missions trip the summer of 2013!! 😀

  7. Im interested in this missions trip, but I wont be able to go this year, I was wondering if this missions trip will be offered next year? And when do you usually put up the trip dates for the following year?

  8. Thank you 🙂

  9. What are we allowed to wear to bed at bootcamp and on the trip?

  10. Caleb Portanova

    ok thank you 🙂

  11. Caleb Portanova

for eating are we suppose to bring plates and bowls and stuff or just the utensels

    • Caleb, You will be issued a tray and bowl for Boot Camp and Debrief. You need to bring a plate/tray and bowl for the field.

  12. Hi! I was just wondering when the 2013 teams will be picked because I cannot go this year!! I would really love to go to China!!!

  13. Caleb Portanova

What clothe washing supplies do I need for the overseas part of the trip. Is there gonna be a dryer while overseas or do i still need to bring the clotheline and clothepins. Do i need to bring laundry detergent for the washing machine in china?

    Thank you

    • Caleb, At this point, you will be washing your clothes in a bucket and drying on a line, so you will need a line and clothespins.

  14. What vaccinations or medicines do I need for China?

  15. Caleb Portanova

am i allowed to bring a lighter for singing the end of the bracelets i make on the plane

  16. Caleb Portanova

What address do I give people if they want to send letters to me

  17. Caleb Portanova

    Ok thank you:)

  18. Caleb Portanova

how big is the carry on?

  19. Caleb Portanova

I Was wondering if we are allowed to take anything on the plane like string or craft stuff because i really wanted to make some bracelets while on the plane so i will have something to do.

    Thank You,

  20. I know you guys haven’t chosen the 2013 trips yet, but I’m not able to go on this one this year, and I really want to. So I hope you guys will consider doing it again. 🙂

  21. Caleb Portanova

what should i bring for sleeping like sleeping bags and stuff. and do we have beds wguke staying in the dorms

    • Caleb, You will need a sleeping bag or light-weight blanket and a sleeping mat or air-mattress for Boot Camp. There are beds in China, but you will need bedding.

  22. Because i was wondering if i could bring my debrief and boot camp clothes in a plastic bin and keep them in the storage area at boot camp when im gone in china and bring only my duffell with my oversea clothes with me when we leave bootcamp.

    • Caleb, You will be issued a duffle bag when you arrive and that is the duffel that will go overseas. Yes, you may bring your clothes in a bin and use those for Boot Camp and Debrief.

  23. Am I allowed to bring my clothes in a plastic bin, or do I have to bring them in a duffell bag?

  24. Sweet, just registered for the spot! Can’t wait 🙂

  25. Is it too late to sign up for this year’s mission trip? I don’t have a passport. Is that something I need to get before registration?

  26. I’m interested, is it full?

    • Rylan, There is one spot left on China if you have a passport (a visa is also required). Holy Land is still open. No, it is not too late to sign up!

27.!/profile.php?id=100003743584227 im going on this trip soooo add me on facebook ig u want

  28. Hey everyone!!! So I’ve been really really really wanting to know who’s going on this trip, because I got on the team!! I don’t know how I didn’t know about this comment wall though. No one had really written anything on it when I had singed up in September..Hahaha so anyway, If your going add me on Facebook! Can’t wait to meet you all!!

  29. Blennifer from Minnesota

HI Beth – I was wondering two things…. can I bring a cot to sleep on, and if I have shorts that are modest, can I bring those to wear on Saturdays….My mom thinks they are ok….oh – and can we wear TOMS shoes if we go to Africa – cuz I hear everyone there wears them.

    • Blennifer, You can bring a cot, but it is preferable to bring an air mattress or camping mat. A cot would probably be too large for your tent since you will also have a tent mate and both of you will have duffels, etc. It would also have to fit in your weight limit of 35 lbs. for your duffel. Please read your General Fact Sheet concerning the dress code. Shorts are NOT allowed except over a swimsuit or to sleep in. The ONLY shoes allowed are your boots and water shoes.

  30. When do we get the list that shows all of our team members?

  31. Are there any spots left

    • Luke, Right now it is full, but go ahead and apply. If there is a cancellation, you can get on. You can also start raising your support for your second choice team and we can put you on China when there is an opening. Right now, NO ONE is on the waiting list, so you should be able to get on before May 1.

  32. When is the final date to be accepted?

    • Emily, The day before Boot Camp. However, the longer you wait, the fewer your choices and the less time you have to raise your support.

  33. Okay I really want to sign up ,but my dad is very concerned about CHristian persecution in China and I was wondering if their was anything that I should know about the subject or what not because that seems to be the only thignstanding in my way

    • Grant, I went there two years ago. There is a thriving church in the city nearby that we attended. The team is not allowed to do any open evangelism, but they can do friendship evangelism.

  34. Do you have any suggestions on ways to raise money?

    • Laura, Send out the leters, go to businesses and ask (your doctor, dentist, etc.), have a car wash, bake sale, spaghetti dinner. Ask for “donations” (not a set price) at these as you will get more money, etc. You could also sell candy or things like that.

  35. Also, do I need to wear pants or can I wear skirts?

  36. Do you have a registration due date? And what if I sign but can’t raise the money in time?

    • Laura, We will call everyone before the final booking of the tickets. You can switch at that point if you don’t think the money will come in.

  37. Hey, I just signeed up! I can’t wait to go! Add me on fb:

  38. I’m filling out passport info for Caleb. What dates do they fly out and fly back? Also, China is the only country I need to list on the passport, right?

    • Wendy, They fly on July 10 and return on Aug. 3 or 4. They are going through Canada. It really doesn’t matter as the passport is for 5-10 years. They won’t “check” the dates.

  39. are there still spots open

  40. I’m going! add me on fb

I went to China with a different organization last summer, and I can’t wait to go again!!! 🙂

  41. YAY!! I’m going too guys! add me on fb!(:
I am sooo excited to see what God is going to do in us and through us there!

  42. I’ve been learning Chinese for about four years and I really want to go on this trip. 🙂 I went to China last summer and it was awesome!

  43. So…I”m just very curious. I’m looking to go on a missions trip next year and I’m looking at many different sites. When it says “Boot Camp”. Are we going to Orlando, staying for a week of “boot camp” and then leaving for China? Or how does this work?

    • Sarah, You fly to Orlando and we pick you up and take you to Boot Camp (which is on the east coast of Florida about an hour from Orlando Airport). You have a little over two weeks of training and then you will fly to China. You come back to Florida for a three-day Debrief.

  44. Hi! I was just wondering if this trip is still open?

  45. haha your rite i do love bootcamp! mrs.Kostner

  46. Is there any spots left?

  47. I just sighned up for this team!!!!!!! cant wait

  48. I was just wondering how many people are already sighned up and if there is anyone who is 13 or 14 could you please tell me because i will be 13 and would like to know if i would be the only young kid or not?

    • Caleb, There are 16 signed up so far which is REALLY good for this time of the year. You will not be the only 13-14 year old-there are five on there now that are 13-14.

  49. went on this exact team in 2010! It was the best thing I’ve ever done. for all of you signed up for the team- good luck and congrats! you will have the time of your life!!

  50. Just curious, received the first pre-trip email, but there is no link in it. Should there be something related to this trip? If so, where could I find it on the website?

    • Daniel, I am not sure what you are wanting. The description of the trip is on our web site. If you have specific questions, please give us a call or email.

  51. I really wanna go on this trip! I feel really called! But I am not sure if I can or not yet, my parents are not 100% on board yet. When do I have to register by?

    • The sooner you sign up the more time you have to raise support. Just keep praying that God will show your parents if this trip is right for you. China is an amazing place to go to!

  52. 222 days! So excited! I was wondering if you could say how many people are signed up for this trip so far, cuz that would be awesome! =)

  53. Are there still spots on this team?

  54. Hey guys, I’m registered for this trip, so if your going add me on Facebook (: Here’s the link

  55. i cant wait for bootcamp haha

  56. **What kind of building are we renovating?

    • Noelle, It is a former “cheese factory”. You may also be working on their other building (administration) or on the dorms. And it could also be a combination of the three.

  57. If you’re actually Chinese, are you still allowed to serve on these trips?

  58. I have a pair of jeans I was going to pack for the trip. The jeans have drawings and writing on them (no bad words or bad pictures). Is that okay or am I not allowed to wear them on the trip?

  59. Hi, I can not go next year but I was wondering is this mission trip going to be open in 2013???

  60. Allison Van Dyke

Is there a certain dress code for every mission trip. Also me and my friend would like to go on the german trip or iceland but do not know how to fundraise for it. If we did go this would be our first mission trip and we do not know what to expect.

    • Allison, The dress code is the same. However, in some countries, the girls are not allowed to wear pants (some countries in Africa). We provide prayer cards and letters to help you raise your support.

  61. Do you do all of these mission trips every year?

  62. This team looks soo cool!

  63. When it says friendship evangelism, is this just showing Christ through your friendliness, or could you actually tell them about the gospel.
