Spindler, David and Stephanie (Winter 2012)

2012—The year in which, according to the Mayan calendar, the world will end. Do you believe that more than you do God’s Word? My Bible tells me that no man knows the day or the hour, not even the Son, but the Father only. I find it best if I live my life to the best of my ability with the help of the Holy Spirit according to God’s standards. That way, I’ll know I am ready, whenever and however God calls me out of this life.

From now until that time, WHENEVER it may be, Jesus commands all of His followers to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 19-20) David and I want to thank those of you who continually make it possible for us to obey God’s call on our lives through your prayers and your generosity. Our greatest desire is to be obedient to His call on our lives, wherever it may be, and that we will, by our lives, our example, our words, be a reflection of Christ.

Daily events around the world are clearly lining up with what God, in His Word, has told us would happen in the last days. Day by day we’re drawing closer to His Second Coming. I wonder how many of us are truly paying attention to the signs, and keeping ourselves prepared? It is our hope and prayer that every one of you are ready for the Lord’s return, for once He appears, it will be too late.

Our ministry to youth is a continual challenge, and we greatly appreciate your prayers. We are now preparing for summer ministry teams for 2012. Teen Missions will be sending youth all over the world to share the Gospel, and if ever the world needed to hear, it is now. There is no hope in what the world offers and if you look around you, you see that clearly. Our only and best help and hope are in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God and in His atoning death and resurrection which give us the right to become sons and daughters of God through faith in Him and what He did for us.

Our work here in Canada will include several large missions conferences and one large youth event where Teen Missions in Canada will have booths to promote the ministry opportunities we offer to missions-minded people of all ages. We are blessed to have these opportunities. In addition, as more Canadians register for summer teams (we currently have 30 and are praying for 60 Canadians in 2012), there will be an increase in the administrative support we provide, as well as keeping the lines of communication open. We pray, as well, that the Lord will make a way for us to further upgrade Camp Outlook, so it can start to be used as a conference/ retreat center, for churches to use for family and/or youth camps, and to hold day camps one or two times a summer. We pray as well for full-time staff with a burden for this ministry opportunity.

The summer of 2012 is planned, and at this writing, will find us leading an Early Boot Camp team to India. This team will plant fruit trees and also do Vacation Bible School ministry together with Indian BiBle, Missionary & Work Training Center students in the area around the Teen Missions India base in Vijayawada. Please pray for our team, that God will bring in those young people He is calling to this team, that David and I can be the head leaders the Lord desires us to be, and that the Lord will open the hearts of those we will minister to.

Celebrating Christmas and New Year’s were different for us this year. Being away from our family was unusual and as we reflected on years past, we realized that it has been since 1976 that we spent a Christmas Day just the two of us. New Year’s, as well, was just the two of us— the first since 1974. We weren’t completely alone, however; dear friends included us in their family Christmas dinner and fellowship and we had a wonderful time. Our children and grandchildren all had nice holidays as well, some by themselves, others with other family.

We thanked God on December 26 for 35 years of life for our daughter, Heather. Born with a congenital heart defect that required open heart surgery when she was 23 months of age, her life is truly a miracle. No less a miracle are our other children, Iva, Jennifer, Olga, and Azamat, as well as our grandchildren, Sean (who has gone to be with the Lord), Alisha, Brice, Shad Rae, Tayler, Talon, and, by the time you read this, Andrey will have joined them (Olga and Jason’s first, due January 13). We’ve been blessed to see a fourth generation of our family, Canten Poletiek, Alisha’s son. Not everyone has the blessing of seeing so many living generations in their family, and we are thankful. Our prayer for all our children, grandchildren, and our great-grandson is that all will come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior and commit to living lives that honor Him in all they say and do and reflect His love to the world. That all would be admitted to Heaven is the best and greatest gift we could ever receive.

Our ministry verses are Romans 10:14,15: “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!’ ” Thank you for making it possible for us to be out here, in obedience to God’s calling. We pray, that all of you, too, are carrying the Word and the love of God everywhere you go, for there are those only you can reach.

May 2012 be a year of blessing for you all—the blessing of faith in Christ being the most important, and the blessings He sends being the best for each of us. As He promises in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” We don’t always understand the things He allows in our lives, but if we will trust Him regardless of what we see, hear, feel around us, and stand firm in our faith, He will show us His purpose. His word promises that He “…causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Together in His Service,
