God has blessed me with the opportunity to help lead the 2012 Malawi Orphan Care Preteen Team this summer. In Malawi, Africa, we will conduct small construction projects and outreaches with the AIDS orphans, as well as ministry to the orphans and surrounding community. I will be with the team for three weeks, and then I will remain for two extra months working with AIDS orphans and street children, doing construction and supporting our three bases in Malawi. My additional time in Malawi was inspired by my past two summers working with the preteens in Malawi and South Africa, which I am grateful to do in God’s service. Please pray for my safety and provision of $4,000 that I still need to raise for this trip. Your prayers and gifts are appreciated! Thank you to those who have been praying for me and contributed to my travels.
I was blessed to spend Christmas with my family in San Diego, CA and share my missions work at my home church, Calvary Chapel of La Mesa. Special thanks to the donors at Calvary Chapel of La Mesa who generously gave towards my trip to Malawi this summer. With $1,600 raised by you, I still have $4,000 to raise for this trip for the three months. A lot of people giving a little makes this large goal reachable! I also want to give special thanks to the Tree of Life Messianic Jewish Congregation for welcoming me and letting me share my ministry there. I was also able to attend the annual Calvary Chapel Missions Conference and met some neat missionaries and visited with some friends at the Calvary Chapel Bible College where I was a student. While in San Diego, God gave me a neat opportunity to share about Him. I was in Wendy’s with a Bible on my table, when a man approached me and, when he saw my Bible, asked me if I would pray for his drug and alcohol recovery. We prayed, and he left. Then a couple nearby saw us praying and asked how they could get involved in missions work, despite not knowing where to start. I gave them information about Teen Missions and who to contact, for which they were grateful. All of this happened, because I had a Bible with me while eating at Wendy’s!
In the past few months since summer, I have continued working in the land crew department at Teen Missions International in Merritt Island, FL. I cut and edge the grass, pick up palm branches, and paint, among other maintenance tasks. My work here at TMI improves the property’s appearance for those visiting and using our buildings, including many churches that utilize our conference center facilities year round. During the summer I help wherever needed at the Lord’s Boot Camp, where we have about 600 kids that are being trained for the mission trips that they will serve on after Boot Camp.
I am very blessed to lead a Peanut Team (7-9 year olds) this summer and look forward to making a difference in their lives. This will be my third time leading the Peanuts and I hope to guide them into a closer relationship with Jesus. They are a lot of fun and it is neat to see God working in their lives when they are so young!
I am so grateful to God for leading me to this ministry, giving me provision, and keeping me healthy to serve Him. God has taught me to trust in and rely upon Him more and more. After all, God does not lie and keeps all His promises, so we have nothing to fear! “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7. God seeks our availability and not our ability.
Anticipating His return, Samuel McCracken
