Panama Mission Trip

Come to the exotic Caribbean coastline of Panama. After Boot Camp training, your team will head to the Orlando International Airport for a flight to Panama City Airport. You will travel by bus three hours along the Pan American Highway, to where the jungle meets the Caribbean Sea. From here you will transfer to boats for a four-hour ride along the Panamanian coast and the San Blas Islands to the island of Ogodsukun. You will be working with the Kuna Youth Missions.

The Kuna are an indigenous people of Panama and Colombia who live on the beaches of the Caribbean Sea, with plots of land in the jungle where they grow plantains, bananas, avocados and other fruits. The Kuna are trapped in ancient traditions of spirit worship and superstitions. Come share the hope found in Jesus Christ to a people who desperately need salvation, using music, puppets and drama.

You will help renovate an old building and put a roof on it and it will be used as a Children’s Center. Housing will be indoors and showers are available. You will have a chance to go swimming in the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. On your return to Panama City, you will visit the Panama Canal and go through the museum that shares it’s history. The museum, overlooking the Canal, allows you to see ocean-going ships pass through the locks right in front of you! Shopping for traditional Kuna dresses, drums, beaded jewelry and much more will be another highlight of your summer.

  1. Will there be contact with parents while the children are away??

    • Jill, Yes, there will be. The team members will send two letters home from Boot Camp and one from the field (they can send more if they wish). They will call before leaving the States and upon returning before Debrief. The leaders will send in email reports twice weekly and these will be posted on our website.

  2. so what are the EXACT dates of this trip? im having problems finding them even though theyre probably right in front of me! JUNE 8 – JULY 31

  3. Are there still any openings left? YES.

  4. Hello. Will teen missions be sending packets out about our teem and teem leaders? (Panama) WE ARE PROOFING THEM NOW AND THEY SHOULD GO OUT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SO.

  5. 2 questions from a parent.
First – Is Spanish spoken by the locals at the Kuna Youth Mission site (I realize not a requirement – but would it be somewhere that team members could practice the Spanish they have learned from school?
Second – are the memory verses in KJV only, or are their options (or are you using a different translation that we used in the 80’s when I went) THE KUNA SPEAK THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, BUT MANY WILL SPEAK SPANISH AND/OR ENGLISH, SO THERE WILL BE MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO TRY OUT THEIR SPANISH. ALL MEMORY VERSES ARE IN THE KJV. HAVING DIFFERENT VERSIONS WOULD BE A NIGHTMARE FOR THE LEADERS TO KEEP UP WITH :).

  6. I am a prior TMI volunteer; 1979 Maimon, Dominican Republic. Now some thiirty-five years later, I feel moved to volunteer again.
When God provides you the opportunity to serve others, please consider His invitation a “special blessing”.
I look forward to serving God through Teen Missions

  7. also, what is the cheapest trip JESSICA, THE US TEAM IS THE CHEAPEST. HONDURAS, ECUADOR, PANAMA, PERU AND HAITI (FULL TO GIRLS) ARE SOME OF THE LOWER PRICED ONES.

  8. i would love to go to panama but my mom says i cant go without her and to save up and we will go nextyear.i know you all have yet to chose the 2014 trips, so is there any other way we can go this year JESSICA, OF COURSE, YOU COULD GO THIS YEAR. IF YOUR MOM IS INTERESTED IN BEING A LEADER, THEN SHE NEEDS TO CALL THE OFFICE AND ASK FOR LEADER PLACEMENT. THERE IS STILL TIME TO RAISE YOUR NEEDED SUPPORT.

  9. is there still room for the panama trip? also, i cannot attach a photo to my registration form, will that change anything? THERE IS STILL ROOM. YOU CAN SEND YOUR PHOTO DIRECTLY TO .

  10. Hi i´m going to Panama and i was wondering if we will be learning the kun language in boot camp. JESSIC, YOU WILL NOT BE LEARNING IT AT BOOT CAMP AS NO ONE SPEAKS IT. YOU WILL LEARN SOME ON THE FIELD. THERE SHOULD BE A TRANSLATOR ON THE FIELD.

  11. hey, i´m very interested in the panama trip but was wondering if the $3000 payed everything including the plane ticket(s) JESSICA, IT DOES NOT INCLUDE YOUR ROUND-TRIP TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM FLORIDA. IT DOES COVER YOUR AIRFARE TO PANAMA, FOOD, ETC. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE SPENDING MONEY OR DEPARTURE TAXES/VISAS/PASSPORT, ETC.

  12. Hi,i am interested in the panama trip and was wondering if there was still room? YES.

  13. Alright, Thank you!

  14. Hi! My brother might be interested in this team (Panama) and he wanted to know how many people are already signed up. Also, he is not very comfortable with talking to others about his faith/ the bible and wanted to know how much of that he’d have to do. TINA, PANAMA IS A WORK TEAM, BUT THEY WILL BE DOING EVANGELISM ALSO. HE WILL BE TAUGHT AT BOOT CAMP HOW TO SHARE HIS FAITH. YOU CAN CALL US AT THE OFFICE FOR MORE QUESTIONS.

  15. Hey, is there still room on the panama trip? And will we be working with kids? Thanks!

    • Marissa, Yes, there is still room on Panama. There will be kids around while you are working and if there is ministry opportunity with them, you will do that also, but working is your main project.

    • Donna, If the registration payment and registration were received, I will place her on the team on Monday. The packet should go out that afternoon. We will email you once she is registered.

  26. ok thanks, but there will most likely be bathrooms available to use since we are in tents? just a little confused!

  27. hi this might sound like a weird question but i was wondering if there are bathrooms available to use since housing is tents? and what type of food would we be eating? sorry i know these are weird questions but i am really interested in going! thanks

    • Blanche, I am not sure of the bathroom situation as I have not read the set-up form. You will mostly eat “American” food, but there will hopefully be an opportunity to eat the national food at some point.

  28. I have the same question as jean, is the $30 registration fee all that we need to pay?

    • Melanie, If you look under “mission trip list” and then click “download a brochure”, you will get more information. This is what is in the brochure:
“Boots, clothing, passports, visas, immunizations, equipment deposits, personal expenses, airfare to Boot Camp and home from Debrief, departure taxes, spending money and other items required are at the team member’s or parents expense.

  29. I am interested in this trip BUT not till the summer of 2014… will it be available then?

  30. I’m intrested in this trip but I don’t want to go on it until the summer of 2014. Will this trip be available ?

  31. Um yeah I’m kind of new to this and was wondering if there’s anything else we have to pay for besides the registration fee?

  32. I’m really interested in this trip, but before I make my decision I was wondering if there was any other trips that weren’t listed yet? Just want to be sure this is the trip for me! Thank you for all the hard work you all do:)
