Haiti/Dominican Republic

Haiti Mission Trip

Take the love of Jesus to the orphans at House of Hope Orphanage in Haiti. Your team will help take the Gospel light to many who live in fear andhopelessness. After Commissioning you will bus to the Orlando International Airport for a flight across the Straits of Florida and Cuba to Panama City, Panama. A connecting flight takes you across the Caribbean Sea to SantiagoDominican Republic. From Santiago, you bus 100 miles to Ouanaminthe, Haiti just across the border from Dajabon.

You will build a shower facility for the orphanage and also a security wall around the property. Housing for the team will be in tents; bathing and laundry is done using a bucket. There will be opportunities to share with the Haitians through drama, puppets, singing and testimonies. While in Haiti, you may be able to visit the Citadelle, a large mountaintop fortress in northern Haiti, and in your free time swim and walk on the beach at Fort Liberty.

To remind you of your summer in Haiti, there will be time to barter for souvenirs such as hand-crafted grass and wood items, paintings and t-shirts.

  17. did the price go down for this trip? and also, can we wear skirts and things, or do we have a special uniform?

    • Grace, Some prices went up and others went down. The dress code for your specific team will be mailed later in the spring.

  18. Hello,
I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this question but here goes. 🙂 I have felt a call to serve in Haiti after going on a trip this winter. I was wondering if you have any full time missionaries there. Also, if you do is there any way I could go about volunteering in the future? I am currently a few years from graduation but would really like to have some stuff in order.
    Thanks

    • Elyse, We will be sending a team there this summer and you can go on that team. We, at this time, do not have our missionaries there, but we will be working with missionaries this summer.

  19. How much room is left on this trip?

  20. Hi, how much money (average) do you think we should bring with us on the trip, in addition to the initial expenses and also, how does the whole booking of flights ordeal work out? Do you book our flights individually on our way home or with the team?

  21. Ok, thanks. One more question, I am allergic to mosquitoes, wasps, and hornets, so, are there lots of them at boot camp or in haiti? My dad wonders how it’d work for me at boot camp (I get a pretty severe reaction).

  22. I was wondering if there were dates you have to get certain amounts of money in by? And if I could get any money back if it turns out I’m not able to go?

    • Marissa, We have “goals” for getting the money in. However, it is all due by the day you arrive at Boot Camp. We will call you in the spring before doing the final airline booking and you can switch to a cheaper team at that time. We cannot refund the money or hold it over for another year unless it is for a medical reason and with a doctor’s note.

  23. Hi, I was wondering what are the requirements prior to the trip (shots and other health requirements)? Also, what is the deadline to sign up for the trip?

    • Lindsay, The sooner you sign up, the better. Teams are filled on a first come, first serve basis. We also have to “reduce seats” on airlines which may take away the spot you want. You need to check with your dr. on what he/she recommends.

  24. Will the children in this oprhanage speak English?

  25. Hey I was wondering if this trip will still be available in two or three years?#saving up my money still

    • Aris, We have no idea. Why don’t you go ahead and sign up. If the Lord wants you to go, HE WILL PROVIDE! We provide prayer cards and letters for you to send out to help you raise your support.

  26. When you say 13 and up does that include 18? I will turn 18 in February and I was wondering if I would have to look for adult mission trips instead?

    • Patrick, You can be up to 20 and go on a team. Those 20 and over can still go, but they might want to consider going as a leader. We do have many 18 year olds attend as team members.

  27. how can we get all the information?

  28. will these trips be open in 2014?

  29. Please be honest, how safe is it to go to Haiti right now? Will we be in a safe area? My parents are extremely concered about this.

  30. if we register, does that mean we are 100% committing?

    • Steven, No, you can cancel at any time up to ticketing. Once the tickets are purchased (in the spring) and you cancel, you would still be responsible for the cost of the ticket.

  31. when and how do we pay?

  32. what will our living quarters be like?

  33. i see it sais dominican republic, any tip going there?

  34. is there still space on this team?

  35. I am interested in this trip. I am currently 18 and will be 19 by the time of the trip. Am i still able to go on this trip? will i need to apply for a visa? are there any required vaccines?

    • Olivia, You are still able to go. A passport is required, but not a visa. No vaccines are REQUIRED, but you will need to check with your physician on what is RECOMMENDED>

  36. jacqui, the haiti trip seems like a fun way to share the word of God with the children and help them. I want to go this summer but, my parents say that it is to much money. But I know that if God thinks that it is a good idea for me to go then the Lord will provide my family the money so that I can go.Keep your fingers crossed [please and thank you].

  37. Do we know the dates we would be leaving for haiti? I turn 18 end of July so I need to know how to fill out the registration form(with/without parental consent)

  38. So what about if someone wants to go who isn’t a perfect picture of health, and maybe sometimes can’t do what most people can?

  39. Are all of the trips the same lengths or are some longer or shorter? When is the deadline for registration?

    • Emily, A couple of the teams are almost full, so the sooner you sign up, the better. The dates are listed and some are longer than others (but just about a week longer).

  40. Oh, and is there a certain level of strength/health required?

    • Emily, There is for certain teams (backpacking), but not Haiti. You will need to be able to carry your weight of responsibility.

  41. Where is the initial meeting place?

  42. So, wait. do you sign up and if you get enough money in the end, great, but if not, to bad, you can not go on the trip?? or do you have to pre pay?

    • Grace, When we are at the point of final ticketing and at that point you can switch to a cheaper team if it doesn’t look like you will get the money. Once the tickets are purchased, they are non-refundable.

  43. Elizabeth Weidknecht

Is there anything I can not bring? What should I bring?

  44. Elizabeth Weidknecht

Do I have to get or have any shot’s for this trip?

  45. Elizabeth Weidknecht

By what date do I have to pay the full amount?

    • Elizabeth, The total amount due is the day you arrive at Boot Camp. However, we ask that all monies be in our office by May 1 for Early Boot Camp and May 15 for Super Boot Camp. The last possible date is when you arrive at Boot Camp.

  46. Elizabeth Weidknecht

    How many spots are open?

  47. Elizabeth Weidknecht

Do you have any idea’s of how to raise that much money?

    • Elizabeth, We provide prayer cards and letters for you to send out to help you raise your support. You can also do other things such as car wash, spaghetti dinner, etc.

  48. I was looking at a retreat that is building toilets for church communities, renovating 5 shop blocks and café for the mother’s union, working and playing with the children in the diocese’s schools and nurseries, getting involved with the diocese home-care HIV/AIDS project and I’m curious if this is similar. I see it says we build a shower facility but is there also more options to help?

    • Savanna, The shower facility will by your main project. You may do other small projects and there will be evangelism opportunities.

  49. so before we can go what is the estimated total we have to spend to be able to go?

    • Allison, I am confused by your question. The estimated amount is what is listed. The amount you will have to raise will be posted in October/November when we get the airline costs.

  50. How many spots are open???

  51. what if you are from canada and dont get out of school until the 27th.
