On Saturday, our last day of camp, we awoke to rain which lasted off and on all day. We are thankful for a beautiful week to enjoy with the campers and that it only rained on the last day. Friday, the team members were judges as the campers participated in the “Olympics”. Everyone had fun. We ended the evening with a campfire where we roasted sweet potatoes and marshmallows.
It was very difficult to say “bye” to the campers, especially a couple of the orphans. It was difficult for the campers to leave their new-found friends. Everyone agrees that they learned a lot and we are all looking forward to next week’s camp where we are expecting around 49 campers.
Saturday afternoon, we visited the local town where several were measured for Chinese outfits. While they were getting measured, most wandered around the surrounding small stores. We ended the evening by having dinner at a Chinese restaurant. The one where we had reservations was closed, so Nina quickly found another one. There were two that didn’t want to eat Chinese, but by the time the first course was passed around, they had caved and were eating along with everyone else. We all enjoyed the 10 course meal, especially since it cost less than $3.00 per person!
On Sunday, we awoke to BEAUTIFUL sunshine. We could even see the mountains in the distance (which is very rare). Following breakfast, we had devotions and services here where we enjoyed singing and listening to testimonies. The afternoon was spent doing our verse reviews, library reading and GG classes. Some of the team members took a three-hour bike ride in the afternoon before supper. For some reason, there were not any left-overs at supper!
Today we moved beds around to make room for all the campers coming in and also doing a general clean-up of the property. The beds have to be taken apart before moving them out of one room into another, so it was a time-consuming task. The campers arrived about 2:30 PM. There are 26 boys and 24 girls ranging in age from 8 to 18.
During our Bible Study time this morning, we spent time praying for the upcoming camp. We also divided up and prayed over different areas of the property (classrooms, dorm rooms, dining room, recreation areas, etc.).
Please pray for a good week of camp and that we all will be lights to the campers.
Rylan Perkins – I can’t believe that we have been here for two weeks. Time has flown by so fast since I have been here. It is an amazing experience and I would love to do it again!
Anna Everson – Isaiah 40:31- “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” This verse really encourages me that God is with me wherever I go and that I need to wait on God. I’m loving it here in China and I am learning a lot about how I need to grow closer to Him. I want this summer to glorify Him.
