China Camp – 12019

What a busy and exciting weekend! Camp ended on Saturday afternoon. Again, it was very hard to say “good-bye” to the campers and it was hard for many to bid us good-bye also. However, we were excited to be able to spend a few days together as a “team”.

We spent the late afternoon in town doing a little shopping and a lot of snacking. It was nice to get away for a couple of hours. When we returned, we had sandwiches, chips and oreos before having evening devotions and putting our weary bodies into bed for the night.

We awoke on Sunday morning and had a home-made doughnuts and cereal for breakfast. We then boarded a bus for an hour-long trip into Tiyuan City for church. We found out that they were having their yearly baptismal service where 400-500 were baptized. How exciting to know that at least 400-500 Chinese from Tiyuan City made commitments to Christ this past year! After watching many be baptized, we left and went to either McDonalds or KFC for lunch. What a sight we were for the fashion conscious Chinese—especially the girls in their skirts and boots!

We then walked to the park. This is a HUGE park in the middle of the city. We walked to the back of the park and most of the team members enjoyed riding the rides. A lot of Chinese wanted to take pictures of us and with us. We left about 5PM for “home”.

Despite having an exciting day in the city, it sure was nice to get back to our little, QUIET compound. While dinner was being prepared, the odds and evens (count-off numbers) had a “quiz off” with the evens severely defeating the odds. After dinner, we had evening devos and then it was off to bed.

Today we started working around the camp. Several were involved in moving beds while others were involved in doing general clean up. Another group was taking down some trees to beautify the area. We have battled rain off and on. It is suppose to rain all day tomorrow, but we are hoping for a sunny day so that we can get all of our clothes dry.

We leave on Wednesday for Beijing and we are excited!
