Some of you may be surprised to be receiving this letter. Yes, we have rejoined the staff of Teen Missions. We moved to Merritt Island, Florida, from Bradford, Ohio, on January 3. When we arrived at our trailer on Heavenly Street (TMI housing), there were several people who greeted us and immediately started helping us move in. The truck was unloaded very quickly. We thought that we would be unloading ourselves as many of the staff were away for the holiday break, so we were surprised with all the help. Furthermore, Sarah Codding and her family gave us supper that night. Teen Missions had also put food on the counter and drinks in the fridge. The next night, the Vanderpools brought another delicious supper for us. We were very blessed by all of the help and provisions given to us and thank the Lord for each one involved.
We started serving at the main headquarters on January 8. I am working in the Finance Department while Don works outside. The Lord helped him with his first assignment of a challenging plumbing job in one of the trailers. We really enjoy the chapel services each morning before work.
Tori and Joshua started at Lewis Carroll Elementary School on January 8. They are enjoying it and have adjusted well to all of the changes. They now ride a bus to and from school. They have fun playing with the other children who live in the neighborhood.
Each summer, TMI takes teams of teenagers on missions trips all over the world. As of now, they reported that there are 480 registrations so far for this summer. We may be leading the Peru team from June 16 – August 10. The brochure states that this team would fly to Lima, Peru and then fly to Pucallpa, a jungle city located on the Amazon Basin on the Ucayali River which merges into the Amazon River. Our project will be to continue construction on the church and classrooms for El Shaddai, a Bible Missionary Church that ministers to the people of Pucallpa. If we lead this team (or any other team), we need to raise support for our children, Tori and Joshua, to go along with us. Please pray that we will receive the funds we need for our children to go. If you would like to support our children, send a check to Teen Missions, made payable to Teen Missions along with a note stating that it is for Tori and Joshua Derstine’s summer team support.
Right now TMI is being represented by Steve Petersen on the Winter Jam tour. He is traveling with the bands and is able to share about the ministry of Teen Missions at the concerts. Please pray for him and his family as he is traveling and away from home. Also, pray for many to hear about TMI and for more teenagers to have a desire to serve the Lord this summer on one of the teams.
Thank you for praying and/or giving so we can serve here with Teen Missions. We are very blessed and praise the Lord for His provisions, love, and care for our family. May the Lord bless each of you. Our new address is: 239 Heavenly Street Merritt Island, Florida 32953 and our e-mail address is still: [email protected] if you would like to write or e-mail us.
*Our adjustments to our new home, surroundings, and situations
*We will trust the Lord to provide for all of our needs.
*We will trust and obey the Lord in all things and grow closer to Him each day.
In His Love,
Don, Melissa, Tori, and Joshua Derstine
