Guatemala Orphanage — Teen Trip

Guatemala Mission TripsGuatemala Missions Trip

Imagine not knowing where you will sleep tonight, or when your next meal will be. Thousands of orphans are experiencing this each and every day in Guatemala. Make a difference this summer in the lives of some of these children. After your training at the Lord’s Boot Camp, you will bus to the Orlando International Airport for a flight to Guatemala City, Guatemala via Miami International Airport. Your project is to begin construction on a new dormitory for an orphanage that greatly needs an expansion to accommodate more children. Over one third of the population of Guatemala is under the age of 15, and it is estimated that there are more than 370,000 orphans. Many of these orphans that would benefit from your labors are currently living on the streets due to poverty and abandonment. Not only will you be constructing a building, you will also have the opportunity to tutor school lessons, teach phonics and crafts as well as play games with the children already living at the orphanage. Show the love of Jesus to those who do not receive much love anywhere else. Housing is in dorms with showers available; laundry will be done using buckets. You will enjoy shopping in the local markets in Guatemala City, as well as the Mercado Central, or Central Market, and Mercado de Artesanías which have a wide range of arts, crafts, textiles, and souvenirs.

Project Expense: $3190 U.S. plus $30 Registration Fee

  1. How would we know that the food or water we would be eating and drinking would be safe?

    • Abby, We filter all drinking water. The lady leaders do the cooking for the team. You may have national meals, but the nationals are VERY careful in their preparations.

  2. Hey Beth THANK YOU for all your doing. 🙂

  3. I was wondering what the deadline for registration is and options for what happens if you don’t end up with enough money?

    • Jamie, The sooner you sign up, the better. You will have more choices and will have more time to raise your support. We will call you in the spring before the final booking of the airline tickets. At that point, if you don’t feel you will have enough money, you can switch to a cheaper team.

  4. Hey if anyone is signed up for this trip, find me on facebook: Judah bergeron. We have a facebook group formed already.

  5. Dear Mrs. Kostner,

How many male team members have signed up for the trip?
I am glad to hear that Utmost is alright to bring.

    Tim Kennelly

  6. Dear Ms. Kostner,

Are the leaders for this team already chosen?

  10. Is there still room for girls on this trip?

  11. How many girls are on the waiting list for this trip?

  12. Hello! I was wondering when the deadline is to sign up for this mission trip. Also, how many people normally attend your trips and what’s the average age of the participants? I’m sorry for all of the questions, but I’m extremely curious! What a great idea to encourage teens to serve!

    • Angela, This team is already full to girls, but you can sign up and be put on the waiting list if you request it. We will take up to 25 people (15 girls and 10 boys). The average age is 15, but we have those as young as 13 and as old as 20.

  13. Hi I was wondering how many people are on the waiting list currently. Thanks.

  14. Hey Meghan, I am also going to Guatemala! I sent you (at least I think it was you) a friend request on Facebook. We created a group called Guatemala 14005. -Judah

    • Hi Judah. I’m so excited for Guatemala. I sent you a friend request from my mom’s FB (Long story). I was wondering if you could invite me to that page. Thanks! ~M

  15. Is the team still full for girls?

    • Grace, It is full to girls, but there is no one on the “waiting list”. It was full last week, then one spot opened up, but was soon filled.

  16. Find me on FB! I’d love to get to know some of you a little before boot camp! Meghan Carman. I can’t believe it’s full for girls already! I can’t wait to see how God works in Guatemala this summer!

  24. What is the main religion on these trips?

  25. I really want to do this trip, but I found out really late and I’m not really sure if there is not enough space for the trip. Will you please tell me if there is enough space?

  26. Hi, I live in Smithers BC Canada and was wondering what the total cost would be to get from where I am to the Lord’s Boot camp then the bus to Orlando and from there to Guatemala.

    • Deborah, You will need to check on round-trip airfares to Orlnado. We provide the transportation to/from Boot Camp and to/from Guatemala.

  27. Are we aloud to bring stuff for the kids? Like gum etc.

  28. (1) A friend and I want to go together, how can we make sure we are on the same team? (2) Is there spots still available for Guatemala? (3) If I register now, will my packet come soon? Thanks!

  29. What type of physical labor will it be?

    • Grace, The team will be building a dormitory. I am not sure at what stage you will begin. You could begin from the very beginning (footers) or it may be partially done.

  30. Is it a spanish speaking country?

  31. Hi, I am extremely interested in doing the trip. would I be allowed to get sponsors for the money ? I would also like to know if you do any fundraisers for the trip ?

    • Emily, We provide Prayer Cards and letters to help you raise your support. You can send these out to your friends and family. You can do your own fundraisers.

  32. Are you working all days ? Or are there any days off like the weekends

    • Eliza, It depends on the work, what the EV opportunities are and if sightseeing is planned for that weekend. Usually, you work Monday through Friday and half a day on Saturday, but if you are sightseeing on Saturday or during the week, you may work a whole day on Saturday.

  33. My parents don’t think I will be able to raise over 2,000 dollars by fundraising. Do parents usually pay for a bulk of the cost?

    • TeenChristian, No, most parents don’t pay for the bulk. We provide prayer cards and letters for you to send out to help you raise your support. You can also contact businesses and do garage sales, etc. to help you raise the money. God will provide if you do the work and if that is what He wants you to do!

    • As a parent of a child who has been on 3 trips I can assure you that God will provide.

  34. How old do you have to be to become a full time missionary?

    • Rachel, I am not sure what you mean by a “full-time” missionary. It depends on the organization you go with. To participate with us, you must be 13 to go to Guatemala.

  35. If I have a tattoo can I become a team member or a leader.

  36. I have many questions. 1.) If I don’t have then entire amount by the due date what happens then? 2.) does all the money have to come in payment? 3.) when is the deadline?
How can I just get a lot of information?

    • Aubrey, We will call you before the final booking of the airline tickets. At that point, you can choose to switch to a cheaper team if needed. You can raise support (we supply prayer cards and letters) and you send it in as it comes it. We would LIKE to have all the money in by May 1 for Early Boot Camp and May 15 by Super Boot Camp and Preteens. However, it is definitely due by the day you arrive. More information is sent when you register. If you have a list of questions, please email them to .

  37. What season will it be in Guatemala? Will it be really hot during the summer?

  38. I am really interested in working with the kids, is there a certian trip that is mainly working with children? If so, which one? Thanks!

    • Amber, Any orphanage or foot washing team will be working with children.

      • Thank you! Also, what is the difference between a Super Boot Camp and an Early Boot Camp? And a friend and I want to go together, is there any way we can make sure we are on the same team? Thanks!

        • Amber, The only difference between the two Boot Camps are the dates and projects. If you register at the same time and put the same choices, you should get the same team. You can write in the comment section that you want the same team. We will be back in the offices next weeks, so the packets should go out then.

  39. I’m seventeen, can I be a leader on this trip? I was told by my leaders in 2012 that they recommended me to be a leader. Does that change the fact that I should be 18?

    • Erin, You cannot be a leader until you are 18. If you turn 18 during your involvement, that would be a possibility.

  40. how much would I have to pay?

    • Olivia, The “range” is listed. We will not know the final cost until October when we know the airline fares.

  41. What team would you recommend if you wanted to work primarily with kids or something non construction based?

  42. Would we be spending time with the kids every day? Or would we be doing only construction most days?

  43. Will this team be primarily work, or working with kids?

  44. Hi,
School for seniors in Portland officially gets out on the sixth of June at 1:00. I could catch a flight that afternoon to be in Florida on the seventh in the early morning. Would this interfere with Boot Camp activities in a way that I wouldn’t be able to participate in this mission?

  45. What are the general ages for leaders?

  46. We’ll we be speaking spanish with the kids?

  47. My little sister is wanting to come with me this coming year on a trip but she won’t be 13 till October. So does that mean
we have to wait till October or could just sign up now. She will be 13 well before next summer but we wanna sign up as soon
    as possible.

  48. Beth, when we arrive for boot camp, do we fly to Orlando International? And do we arrive there on the 7th? How do we all meet up?

    • Kym, You will receive all that information once you sign up and once we get it together (late September/early October).

  49. How big can this team be?

  50. Caroline, I just registered for this trip and I have some questions I would like to ask.. Is there an email of someone I can talk to?

  51. Would this Guatemala involve a lot of speaking in Spanish? 🙂

  52. Would the orphanage by any chance be Nuevo Reto that the 2003 Guatemala team helped build? I was on that team and I’m just curious!

  53. Are you in the Country from June 7- July 28? Or is the 2 weeks of boot camp included in that? Also, is there any other difference between the first and second boot camp, besides the length of time and cost? What all is included int eh Estimated Project Expense? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to figure this all out. 🙂

    • Makayla, The dates are all-inclusive (include Boot Camp, project time and Debrief). The only differences between the Boot Camps are the project locations and dates. The project expense includes air tax, travel to and from your project site (ground and air), food, building supplies, etc. It does not include Departure taxes (if any), passport, visa, transportation to/from Flordia, spending money, supplies or incidental expenses.
