Kilimanjaro Backpack and Work — Teen Trip

Kilimanjaro Mission Trips2012_Tanzania_USTeam_056

Backpacking in beautiful Tanzania, Africa, will challenge you to trust the Lord with every step, as you trek from the valley to the mountainside of Mount Kilimanjaro, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. After training at the Lord’s Boot Camp, you bus to the Orlando International Airport for a flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport, via Washington D.C. and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The team will then bus to the Teen Missions in Tanzania property located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Make a difference for future missionaries by continuing construction on the first buildings at this base. After your project time, you will backpack to remote villages on the mountainside of Africa’s tallest peak (over 19,000 feet tall)! and share the Gospel using drama, puppets, and showing Christian films to some who may have never heard the name of Jesus before. Housing will be in tents; bathing and laundry will be done using a bucket. Shopping in Moshi will give you a chance to purchase unique souvenirs of the Masai tribe, as well as traditional national clothing, bags, wood carvings, baskets, and native paintings. Note: Members of this team should be in good physical health and free of respiratory difficulties.

  1. Is the yellow fever vaccination required for this trip?

  2. Ok, thank you. When will the 2015 teams be set?

  3. Is there still room on the team? and if so, when will the latest time to join be?

  4. Coming from a small town, is it difficult to raise support? Also, is it too late to register?

  5. I was also wondering if you guys had a specific denomination…thanks?

  6. Is it possible to get financial aid, or a scholarship type thing for the trip?

  7. Hello I have registered and I was wondering where I could find my computer ID number

    • Ryan, We don’t use that number any more, but it is the five digit number with an M in front of it. It probably begins with a 4.

  8. Hi! This trip looks amazing, i must say. But, my question is whether i would be able to go or not because I turned 18 this past July, but I am a senior in high school still and will graduate the May before the trip starts.

  9. Hi! I was wondering if airfare is included in the cost of this trip (I think it is) and if there would be a possibility for someone going on the trip to purchase their ticket separately with frequent flyer miles (of course coordinating to purchase a ticket for the same flight)? Thank you!

    • Mary, The round-trip airfare to/from project country is included. Your round-trip transportation to/from Florida is NOT included. No, you cannot purchase your ticket for your project country separately. There are too many “ifs” in that scenario.

  10. I went on this trip in 2011, and would love to actually volunteer as a leader. I have a passion for Tanzania and would love to help.

  11. Hey, Beth.

I went on the Scotland team last year and I wasn’t sure if I could go to Tanzania since it is a UK commonwealth. And after being deported from Scotland, I wasn’t sure if that would affect my choices for this year.

    • Cassie, As long as there is nothing in your passport stating you were deported, you should be fine.

      • Beth, they put an “X” through the passport stamp. Does that mean I can’t go on this trip? Or any of the others that are British Commonwealth countries?

        • Cassie, I have no way of knowing for sure, but as long as they didn’t stamp it “deported”, you should be fine. If you are unsure, you can always apply for another passport.

  12. I would love to go on this trip. My dad was wondering if the tent and backpack are provided by you or do we bring our own? Thanks.

  13. I’m thinking of going to this one. Is there any special requirements?

  14. Does TMI plant churches or just support local churches that are already there?

  15. Does Tanzania usually require visas?

    • Alyshia, Yes, Tanzania (at this time) requires a visa and at this time, you can get it upon arrival. A Yellow Fever vaccination has been required in the past.

  16. Do you know how many days will be spent backpacking and how many construction work? Thanks
