We had another amazing summer backpacking through the Italian Alps with 19 youth and three assistant leaders. We had several obstacles that stood before our team, such as snow covered passes; cold, wet feet; physical injuries and tired, sore bodies that could have easily said, “I’ve had enough”! God’s word says in Isaiah 40:29, “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.” We saw this Word come alive in our team this summer as each one overcame not only the physical obstacles but also the spiritual walls that want to hold us back from growing in God’s Truth. These guys were zealous about sharing their faith, and from the mountain tops to the slums in the Gypsy camps, Jesus was made known. May the seeds planted fall upon good soil and glorify the name of the Lord.
Gabriela and Caleb bonded well with the team even though they didn’t participate in the Teen Missions Boot Camp training in Florida. Thank you so much for those of you that prayed for us this summer and who helped support our children in their 5th year of summer missions. We are so blessed by your partnership and loving support!
God did miracles in many lives this summer, but one in particular we want to share is about our Iranian friend, Ruth. She has carried the vision in her heart for some time now to take Teen Missions to her own people in the Middle East. She and her family live in Italy and work with many refugee families. She was able to join our team this year as an assistant leader and translate for our evangelism events. She traveled to the US to participate in the Boot Camp training in Florida and was able to learn about the program from the start. We praise the Lord for her passion and vision for the youth in however the Lord may lead her.
Nearly a week after we returned to our apartment in Turin we were able to participate in the baptism of our dear friend, Lynda. She first heard the gospel one year ago when we had just arrived in Italy. We have walked with her through many dark valleys but are now rejoicing over her commitment to follow Jesus. Her countenance and mannerism have changed 100% from the day we first met her. What a glorious testimony of God’s unfailing love she is to all who know her. We thank God for bringing this dear friend and her children into our lives.
We all received a special gift when Sarah came from Israel to visit us for a month. She was with us from August 20–September 19. She is now full time staff at Shevet Achim and has committed to stay for another six months with the ministry. She is loving this opportunity to serve as well as taking on the challenge to learn to speak Kurdish and Arabic. If you would like to know more about Sarah and what she is doing please check out the website at www.shevet.org. You may also contact us if you wish to receive her personal updates or sponsor her financially.
After being in full time missions for five years, it is natural to lose some of our financial supporters. We are so blessed by the generous gifts that we have received over the years and we thank you for partnering with us in so many different ways. On the other hand, we are looking for 50 new supporters who can sponsor us for $10 a month, helping to increase our monthly support by $500. If you would like to be a financial partner, please fill out the coupon below or contact Teen Missions for online giving.
Another way to partner with our ministry is through prayer. We would also love to hear from you and how we may be praying for you.
• Please pray for Gabriela and Caleb in this new school year, for healthy friendships and language fluency.
• Pray for Sarah in Israel, for safety and effectiveness in her ministry.
• Pray that we would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His leading in our lives as we disciple and minister to
immigrants and refugees.
In His Peace,
David & Becca Powell
