In the final days of Boot Camp, the Zambia team was elated to have completed training, including the Obstacle Course. They also enjoyed cold chocolate milkshakes and hot pizza night, and won the Clean Award for their third and final time during rally. The Zambia team was in good spirits and excited about finally traveling to Zambia and embarking on our mission work. We commissioned as a team on Sunday night, with all team members lighting their candles and answering the Lord’s call to evangelize and work this summer in Zambia. The team departed from Florida Monday night, arriving safely in Washington DC, where we spent the night in a hotel. Travel to Zambia, via Addis Ababa, commences on Tuesday Morning-Thursday at Noon. The entire team arrived in Lusaka, Zambia Wednesday, 25 June at approximately 2:30 PM, with all team members/leaders and luggage. We were met by TMI personnel, Robert, Oscar, and Victor, who transported us to a local church for the evening (after stopping for food and necessities for the evening/next morning). The team enjoyed a peaceful evening of rest, which was much appreciated after a long trip from the US to Zambia. In the morning we headed out to Ndola, arriving just in time for lunch (which was already prepared and waiting for us by the Zambia Coordinators, Doug and Barb Peterson). We are now unpacking and inventorying supplies and preparing for an expedient departure to the first orphanage around Friday, June 27th. Many team members are fascinated by the natural beauty of Zambia. One in particular, McKaylin Darsey, is astounded by this country’s beauty and the entire travel experience as she has never before experienced air travel.
