Cameroon Update

Greetings family and friends!18 Cameroon

Today is July 24th and we continue to serve the Lord with a grateful heart. We have had many great opportunities in Cameroon, and we are very blessed to be here in God’s hands. After arriving back from the Rescue Unit on the 22nd, we were able to attend Cameroon’s Boot Camp Commissioning. It was exciting to be a part of their final night, and the kids found it surprising that it was only a few weeks ago that they were lighting their own candles. It was a night of worship, love, and joy from both the kids from America (Canada too :D) and Cameroon. We were able to see a quick presentation from each of the four Cameroon teams, which consisted of all the material that the American kids were able to teach them. It’s a very fulfilling gift to see instant fruit from the work that we have been doing here.

After the exciting night of candles and singing songs, we were able to take a day to get things ready for our next trip to the Rescue Unit in Gom. It is a much farther drive, so we are preparing for the intense “African” bus ride. It’s always a thrill to be able to close your eyes and imagine being on a roller coaster. Also being able to get as clean (as possible) and to do laundry was a blessing that had to be completed. However, after that was finished we had a good amount of time to play and sing with the local village kids. We, as well, were invited to play a game of soccer with some local teenagers. Kameron, Jake, Nik, Levi, and Gabe were all able to try their futball skills with the kids. They soon found out that it is much more challenging to play in bulky boots, while having to be aware of the kid’s bare feet. It’s amazing to see how well the Cameroon kids play at such a young age. It was a great day, and we were able to share about Jesus with some of the kids playing futball. We finished the day with an outstanding Mexican homemade dinner and team time to end the day strong in the Lord.

Many prayers have been answered, and we see growth in their lives every day. It’s exciting to see 18 young men and woman grow in the Lord, and to hear about what they’ve been learning in their devotions. One praise that we have already seen is that Amber Bryan’s knees were in great pain when we started this trip. It’s encouraging to say that she no longer has to wear knee braces at all!¬†Many others have been sharing praises about personal obstacles that they are overcoming through Christ. They continue to memorize their summer verses and apply them to their daily lives.

In-Field Web Testimonies:

I’m learning so much about love. God is teaching me how to love people recklessly and passionately, even those I might not always get along with. Psalm 145:8 says, “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”

God has been teaching me about trust. To trust Him through everything and to not worry about things of the future because those things are all entirely in His hands. He is also showing His beauty throughout the country and people of Cameroon.

This experience has really taught me the importance of prayer. Patience to rely on God and that our prayers are heard, even if we don’t like the results. Being here has shown me how much we need to have faith because without that faith our hope is gone. I’ve seen prayers answered and everything has built my faith.

One thing that I have been learning a lot this summer is that you can find beauty in every little thing in people and surroundings. I believe that God has made everything for a purpose and is perfect. Therefore, if we were to have hatred towards those things, then we are having hatred towards the Creator. I also realized I need to find my strength in the Lord, and He will give you the same too if you rely on Him.

This summer God has taught me that no matter what you have done in the past or how far you have fallen away, that God will forgive you. He will forget what you’ve done and He will still take you back.

So far this summer God has been showing me that I need to completely trust in Him and his unfailing love. He has also shown me that I need to live a life on fire for Him, and that it can’t just be lukewarm. I need to be completely sold for Jesus.

The Lord has really been speaking to me about a divided heart and the necessity of being 100% focused on Him. Realizing that the things of this world will not last and are truly not worth my time has helped me. The Lord has started shaping a deeper love for Him and His kingdom in me. I can’t wait to see what else He has in store for me and this team!

This summer I have learned a lot. I have learned to be patient and understanding of others. I have found a new love of devotions and of prayer. God has been teaching me to let go of my pride and live my life in complete submission.

God has taught me so much in these last few weeks. He’s shown me not to rely on myself, but fully on Him. Recently, I’ve been praying about my future and I’ve felt this peace about it. He’s showing me that I don’t need to worry about it, but give it all to God.
