Greetings to all and Happy 2015!
This May will start our ninth year with Teen Missions! WOW! It seems like only yesterday that we packed that moving van and uprooted our family from southern Ohio. We recently realized that Zoe (almost 11 years old now) has spent most of her life in Florida. She is more of a Florida girl than an Ohio girl. That’s unbelievable to me!
Life at Teen Missions
In January, we started a new term at the Florida Free BIBLE, MISSIONARY & WORK Training Center with 33 students! When I walked into the classroom that first day and saw all 33 of them sitting together in one place, I suddenly felt very small and overwhelmed! There are so many of them! HAHA It’s a good thing to have a student body that large, but a lot of work for Shannon and me to keep up with them. It is a real privilege to watch them grow in their walk with the Lord and to see them follow God’s call in their lives. Not only do we have 33 students on campus, but we also have 11 interns serving overseas in Ecuador, Australia, Uganda, Madagascar, South Africa, the Philippines and Cambodia. It sure keeps my office busy!
Shannon has been busy working around the conference center making repairs, painting and maintaining the property. We have several retreats scheduled for this spring. The income from retreats, conferences and property rentals are what supports our free Bible school.
Shannon will be going to Ecuador in April with my brother, Mark. They hope to be able to repair the tractor and the van at the base and do some maintenance there. He also hopes to encourage one of our interns that is serving there. Please pray that they will be successful and will be able to be an encouragement to the staff and students in Ecuador.
We have lots of volunteers making their way south for the winter. They are such a blessing to all of us. The women sew puppets, tabernacle curtains and such and the men do carpentry, maintenance and mechanics. We enjoy seeing each one of them when they come and hope to see many of you in the coming months!
In November, our oldest daughter, Taylor, married Wesley Collingsworth on a beautiful sunny day in Lexington, Kentucky. It was a perfect day. What a joy it was to see them both so happy and to see all of our prayers for Taylor over the last 24 years answered! God is so good and so faithful! We are blessed! They are living in Franklin, Tennessee. Wes is the tech director at Rolling Hills Baptist Church and Taylor is working part time at a retail store and looking for a full time job. They are very happy. We were able to go visit them over New Years.
Canaan has committed to join staff at Teen Missions! It will be such a blessing to work alongside him as staff together in missions work. He plans to lead the Russia team this summer and stay in Russia to help the base there. He has spent three summers there previously and has a real burden for the people of Russia. Please pray for him as he raises his prayer team and his support. In the meantime, he started working as a substitute teacher and is also still working at Chick-Fil-A. He is really enjoying teaching! As of the beginning of January, he is FOUR MONTHS SEIZURE FREE! This is real answer to prayer. He is doing great. His neurologist is working to reduce the amount of medicine he takes and his VNS implant seems to be helping to control the seizures as well. Again, God is SO good and so faithful!
Madison and Zoe are busy with school. Madison is now driving on a learner’s permit. They are both playing basketball and are on the honor roll at school. Please pray that they will be a light to their friends and that they will be confident and contagious in their faith.
We are looking forward to the summer with great anticipation. This year, Madison and Zoe will both travel with us to Nepal. We will be at Mendies’ Haven, a children’s home in Kathmandu. We were there three years ago and fell in love with the children there. We look forward to being reunited with them and blessing them by completing some building projects on the property. We have 25 team members and three assistant leaders already signed up to go with us! In fact, two of our assistant leaders are former team members of ours! Nepal holds a special place in Shannon’s heart. It will be so good to be on a team with Madison again. The last two years, she has gone on a team other than ours. Madison and Zoe need to raise $6,800 ($3,400 each) for our team to Nepal. If you would like to help with these costs, please complete the coupon below.
We could never say thank you enough for your prayers, support and encouragement. We are so blessed by all you do! You continue to be in our prayers. May God bless you beyond measure in 2015.
