Namaste From Nepal!

Nepal 7:23The team has been working hard. Our mornings are spent in the village demolishing and salvaging at homes destroyed by the earthquake. Our afternoons are spent doing work at Mendies Haven. We are repairing sidewalks, rebuilding fences, cleaning up the landscaping and repairing some roofs.  We are hoping to install two water tanks to collect rain water for the toilets and showers to help the children.  Currently they must carry water in buckets for the bathrooms. We have evening prayer time with the children and we really enjoy singing with them.  It is amazing to us that they know so many of our Teen Missions songs since there has not been a team here for four years. Some of us get up a little early to join them for morning prayer as well at 5:20 am.

On Monday, Hannah led evening devotions and she led the team in the “cup game” which is a game of encouragement and forgiveness.  It was a very special time for all of us and we were all encouraged and blessed.

Shad and Jami served on KP and baked a special “wacky cake” complete with frosting and cookie crumbles on top.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Jami’s birthday.  Katherine and Nathan decorated a cake for her with M&Ms and I think she heard Happy Birthday sung several times during the day.  The children here made birthday cards for her.

The property here at Mendies Haven is beautiful.  We have an amazing view of the city of Kathmandu.  There is a Hindu temple nearby and we listen every morning as they ring the bells to wake their gods. It is so comforting to know that we serve a God that is alive and well and never sleeps!  It is also Ramadan, a Muslim holy holiday so we are getting lots of cultural exposure here.

We are looking forward to Saturday (the Sabbath day here). We will attend church and then do some sightseeing in the afternoon. We hope to visit the Monkey Temple and the Thamel Market one last time for souvenir shopping.

Wednesday night we had a small tremor here. Most slept through it and never knew it even happened. It was very small and no damage or problems from it.  It is not unusual to have small tremors here

Thank you for your prayers.  They are sustaining us!  Please continue to pray for our good health and safety as we do our work.

Sophia:  My experience at Mendies Haven has so far been absolutely amazing and eye opening. The children here are so welcoming and the time I have spent with them has been inspiring. My relationship with God has grown immensely and a verse that has grown on me is Isaiah 41:10. “Fear thou not for I am with thee be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thes, yea I will help there, yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Rachel:  Wow!  I can’t believe that we have been at Mendies Haven for over a week!  I love spending time with the children. Their joyful hearts are truly inspiring  I’m excited to see what else God has in store for our time here!

Jack V:  if I was to sum up my time so far in Kathmadu it would be Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely and ley is run with endurance the race that is set before us looking to Jesus, the founder and perfectos of our faith, Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”Nepal 7:23 #5 Nepal 7:23 #4 Nepal 7:23 #3 Nepal 7:23 #2

i was touched by your messages and the work you are doing in Nepal. Nothing you do for the Lord goes unnoticed no matter how small and so often we never realize the impact our small acts of kindness may have on the lives of others. On my first mission trip to Jamaica, one of our teams project was rebuilding a church. Some man from the village came by each day and just watched us. Later we heard that he began going to that church and got saved. He said that he was drawn by our committment to come from so far and the love and joy we seemed to have. Praying continually for each one of you, for protection, good health, new relationships, joy in your labors of love, and that you will experience the Lord in new and deeper ways in your life. Keep up the good work! God is smilling.

  3. I am amazed at how the Lord is using you all in helping and serving there! The things you are doing are truly valuable, and so are your loving attitudes! You are representing the Kingdom of God well, each of you! May God bless and keep you and fill you with His Spirit every minute.

  4. Blessings, Love, and Prayers from NC to all the team. We are enjoying the updates (words and pictures). Many hugs to you Isaac.
