This summer has gone by so fast, and it has been filled with so many memories. It’s crazy to think that in just a week we will all be going our separate ways as we head home. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we have had such a great time and are sad to leave Haiti in a few days, but we are all very excited to be home to tell you all about our amazing adventures we’ve had.
While we were working in Deyemon, we spent our time working on the school and church there. We painted the rooms of the school a yellowish color and painted some accent designs with a shade of blue. Then to furnish the rooms we built somewhere around fifty desks. I spent most of the time working with a few of the other girls staining the boards for these desks. The team also painted both the inside and the outside of the church. The congregation and pastor both were very appreciative of all the hard work we did. One of the things that left the biggest impression on the Pastor’s heart was on the last day of work when we walked around and picked up the garbage throughout the area. He was so pleased that he is going to talk to the people there and try to get them to keep the area cleaner.
One of my personal favorite things, as well as being the favorite of many others, was getting to spend all the time with the children. It was so much fun to just sit and talk with them during our free time, to sing songs, play little games, and just love on them. Even while we are working, the children would come and watch us (sometimes help us) and just keep us entertained.
It has been so much fun here and we can’t wait to see everyone.
