Phippen, Seth & Emily Newsletter (Winter 2016)

Phippen 2016Matthew 28:6 “HE HAS RISEN

I know it’s the first month of 2016 and we just celebrated birth of Jesus, but I have been reminded of how Christ’s birth—without thought to His life, death and resurrection—is only half the story! We can’t wait until March to speak of the resurrection. The very purpose that He came was to give Himself, to die as a ransom. He would not stay dead, death could not hold Him! Our only appropriate response is to do exactly what both Mary’s did after IMG_3113they saw the empty tomb “So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.”. We need to run and tell others about the story of the birth of a savior who died and rose again!

Looking over the past year Emily and I are encouraged about all the things that God did for us and through our family and yours! We are thankful for your partnership with us as we serve the Lord here with Teen Missions. We acknowledge that times are tough and finances can be tight, but you have remained faithful and have helped provide for Emily and me and we are grateful!

IMG_3086Our Christmas season was filled with family and fun! Other exciting happenings, my brother Stephen came down from New York the week before Christmas and Emily’s family came down from Minnesota and Arkansas! We were able to celebrate with her family and enjoy one another on Christmas Day, as well as on the 27th when Emily’s brother Ben got married! James enjoyed lots of attention, but also loved getting to spend time with his aunts and uncles individually.

January 2-4, I was blessed to be sent by Emily and others in my family for my birthday to the Passion Conference in Atlanta, GA! I was able to hear speakers like John Piper and Ravi Zacharias. Is there any better way to start out the year than worshiping God and studying His Word with 40,000 other people between the ages of 18 and 25? I don’t think there are many things more exciting than that!

IMG_3064We are excited to tell everyone about the new addition to our family that God has given us! Joining the world in June, we are expecting baby number two. James will be a big brother! Please pray for baby Phippen and Emily as they go through this time. Emily and baby have been doing well. The doctors tell us that Emily looks great and the baby looks and acts healthy. Praise the Lord! Please continue to pray for both of them. James is exciting, goofy, happy, fun and so many other things! He loves to laugh and if he feels like we are not paying attention to him he will just laugh until we acknowledge him. He is the happiest kid ever and is always smiling and playing. He loves it when people come over, which is good because we have people at our house almost every day! When someone comes to our house James will say, “Hi!”, until they say “Hi” back to him. He brings so much joy and laughter into our house, and we are so thankful for him.

On May 7th Teen Missions is hosting its 2nd annual 5k Mud Run to benefit the ministry of AIDS Orphans and Street Children. I am on a crew helping to get the course set up and muddy for the event. Last year there were over 350 people who came out to run the course and this year we are looking to have more than 700 people run!

Phil 1:20 “it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.

IMG_3096This is our prayer as we enter into this year of 2016. Emily and I want to be intentional in everything that we do. Meaning that when we go to the store we want to take every opportunity to show Christ’s love, not just get what we need and leave. We want to take time for people, go out of our way for people, treat others better than ourselves. We don’t want to just live through life, but we want to make the most out of every opportunity, every person, every minute to the glory of God.

Because of this mission there are a few things that we are involved in and praying about for the future. Emily and I have started teaching a Sunday school class together for young married couples in our church. There may be another opportunity to teach a class here at the Bible school in March. I am very excited about this opportunity and hope it works out! As we continue to serve here through advancing the reach of Teen Missions in the world with the purpose of making disciples in all nations, we ask that you would pray for us.

Prayer Requests:

~ Bigger vehicle to fit our growing family!

~ Baby Phippen

~ Wisdom on how to live an intentional Gospel life

~ Financial support goal to be met

With love,

Seth, Emily & James Phippen
