Greetings from the hilltop overlooking Window Rock!
This week saw team Arizona back at WIM (Western Indian Ministries); our main base this summer. The team moved and crushed thousands of pounds of rock while repairing the upper road to the transmitter building and performed other projects including painting and cleanup of the grounds. On Tuesday night, the WIM staff hosted the team and provided some awesome hamburgers and hotdogs. The team shared a full presentation including puppets, testimonies and two dramas (Dividing Line and Battleground) . It was a good time of fellowship and we are thankful for all of the warmth and hospitality of the WIM staff while we have been here. With clear skies and a blazing sun the team pushed hard on the road project Wednesday and Thursday working on the final stretch near the top. Miss Gay snuck ice into our igloos to help cool the team down… a nice surprise!
Another highlight this week was when some of the team were part of a live interview on KHAC radio here in Window Rock. Tim, Kyan, Daniel, Jay, Abby and Miranda were all interviewed by Chuck Harper (the director of WIM) during his weekly radio program. One of the parents, (Ryan & Cody’s mom) was surprised to hear the team come on while she was listening! On Friday, the team plans to begin our sightseeing trip to the Grand Canyon. We plan to travel to Gray Mountain to stay at Tim’s church (one of our leaders). On Saturday morning, we plan to visit the Canyon and on Sunday, we are scheduled to share at a church in Flagstaff before heading down I-40 back to Window Rock for the start of Debrief for our Native American team members. The FTMs (former team members) will still plan to do some work next week as we close out our time here.
We’ve been so blessed. The team is very close and has enjoyed some sweet times of worship during devotions in the evenings. Thanks for your continued prayers!
From the team members:
Richie S. — God’s been teaching me to cool my temper and to be a better worker and not be just standing around. We’ve been working on the road placing rocks and dirt to make it easier to get up the road. Some of the team has been painting at the Hilltop School. Today, we plan to visit Gray Mountain to share at a church near the Grand Canyon. We plan to visit the canyon tomorrow. Our team has been hard working and fun. Hi to my mom and dad. I’ve been praying that you’ll be feeling well. Hi to my sister as well.
Jay D. — We are now here back at WIM where it is beautiful. It also is very sunny here in Window Rock. I believe we have all grown closer as a team… working together as one. We have accomplished a lot together working on the radio tower road. We’ve also done many things for WIM and the school including painting. We are doing devotions in the morning, talking to God, reading verses and sharing them with each other afterwards. I’ve been learning from Psalms 103… the whole chapter. It just talks about God and it’s awesome to know all those things about God. To be honest, I’ve never known those things about God. So now I know and just want to apply that to my life.
Owen M. — Hey everyone! God has really been blessing us this summer! He has been growing in me a lot these past few weeks. He has been showing me that Hi is more important than anything in this world and that I really need to seek Him first. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness…” It’s been a hard lesson to learn and I can feel my sin nature rising up within me, but by the grace of God I’ve been able to fight against it. I’ve also been learning to trust Jesus with everything, which is something I thought I was quite skilled in, but He has shown me that I’ve still got quite a bit of learning to do! I’ve also been learning that I can come to Him with all of my pain, and upset, and confusion, and that He want me to come to Him and fellowship with Him. “Casting all your care upon Him; for he careth for you.” 2 Peter 5:7. Also Isaiah 1:18… Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
