Looking for the adventure of a lifetime? Then serve the Lord this summer in Nicaragua and see what He can do through you, as you work and share the Gospel among school children in Nejapa.

Dates: June 17 – August 4, 2017nicaragua

Teen Missions Trip (ages 13-19)

Travel:  After your training at the Lord’s Boot Camp, you bus to the Orlando International Airport and board a flight that takes you across the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Sea to Panama City, Panama. From Panama City your connecting flight takes you over the Panama Canal and Costa Rica before arriving in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. From the airport, a two-hour bus ride takes you to your project in Nejapa.

Ministry:  Your project is to construct a wall to surround the El Samaritano school property by digging the footers, pouring the concrete and laying cement blocks for the walls. Not only is there plenty of work, but plenty of opportunities in the surrounding barrios for evangelism using puppetry, singing and drama to present the love of Jesus to these children.

Adventure:  After your project, you will take a boat trip to the Islets of Granada located in Lake Nicaragua. These islets were formed when the Mombacho Volcano erupted and threw huge rocks into the lake. Visit the open market to shop for souvenirs such as hammocks, handmade pottery, t-shirts, wall hangings and more.

Project Expense: $3290 U.S. plus $30 Registration Fee

(Note: Teams are filled on a first come, first served basis.) Return to Mission Trips List

  1. Please add Donna Conrad to your contact/friend list.! We want to know the happenings with our daughter, Heidi at boot camp and beyond!

  2. Kristin Driesenga (Derek Votaw)

Hi! My son Derek will be going to Nicaragua and I have a few questions: 1) Can he use a small cinch sack instead of a waist pack for his personal items and camera? 2) If his boots have already been sprayed for waterproofing, does he still need mink oil? 3) I am bringing him there by air—how do we bring along a 5 gallon bucket…do I need to buy one when we land?

    • Kristin, I think I have already answered your questions per phone call. Yes, he may use a cinch sack, but an old backpack is preferable. 2. Yes, he will need to clean them up before Sunday services. 3. You can put the bucket in the tote (make sure it is full) sideways.

  3. Is there any way to get a boot camp map?

  4. Hi going through the packing list and trying to figure out if my daughter’s team is a evangelism team?

    • Melinda, Nicaragua is a work team, but all teams do evangelism. However, pack as a work team.

      • Thank you this helps with the packing. Crunch time and things are a little crazy at our house with two of my kids on separate teams this summer! Thanks again!

  5. Katharine Hope

Do I need to bring mink oil and boot polish or can I bring just mink oil?

  6. We also made one on google hangouts so if you don’t have a Facebook you can join this

  7. Hey we made a group chat for the team members on Facebook and with email so if you want to join you can!!
Our Facebook group is Nicaragua 2017 TMI

  8. When will the boot camp schedule be available?

  9. I just heard about this and I am interested. Is there still any spaces available?

  10. Does the cost include airfare?

    • Natalie, It does NOT include your round-trip transportation to Florida, but it does include your project airfare.

  11. Will I need any vaccines for this trip?

  12. Hi Beth, What day should I book flights home for my daughters? It’s not clear if that should be Aug 4 (last day of debrief) or Aug 5 (when parents can pickup kids from 6am-9am)

    • Ben, Flights home should be between 9AM – 3PM on August 4. If picking up at Debrief, then either August 3 or August 4 (between 6AM-9AM). August 4 is “Go Home” day. This information is in your monthly letters.

  13. When purchasing a camera for my trip, is it recommend that I bring a rechargeable camera or one that requires disposable batteries.

  14. Hi- I also have a 14 year old son who is interested in the Nicaragua trip. Can you tell me how much is due and when? Thank you!

    • Christine, The total amount is due by the day he arrives for Boot Camp. We ask that $300 be in within 30 days and the total cost by May 15. However, those are “goals”. The absolute last date is June 17.

  15. Melinda (Mindy) Conley

I am a former team member (Guatemala 91). I am excited that we will be able to get some updates. My daughter is going on this team. I was wondering is there a way to connect with the leaders or other team members before boot camp? Or is it still the same where everyone meets at boot camp?

    • Melinda, Thank you for your post! Some of the team members and parents have set up FB accounts for their teams. We ask that the leaders not communicate on these sites as communication needs to come through the office.

      • Melinda (Mindy) Conley

That is great! Thanks for the information. Looking forward to this life changing summer for my kids. My son is also going to Ecuador.

        • Hi Melinda. Did you find a Facebook group for this Nicaragua trip. My son is going & we would like to join! Thank you.

  16. Is there still room on this trip for my 14 year old son?

  17. Hey Beth! My mom is an FTM and was there when there was a boot camp wedding. We were wondering if there is a video of it anywhere.

  18. Is it possible for me to get the address of the school we will be going to?

  19. Hi! I was wondering if there are still any spots left for this team?

  20. My friends 18 and I’m 21 and I would love to go to this. Would that be possible since im above the age limit?

    • Miriam. Yes, that is fine. You will need to realize that almost everyone will be younger than you and that may include the assistant leaders. You might want to consider going as a leader. If interested, please call our office.

  21. After registration, about how long will it take for the information packet to arrive?

    • Hope, It takes about a week. You should receive an email once the complete registration is received. if you haven’t received an email, please call the office.

      • Ok, I was wondering because I had registered right after Christmas break and it hadn’t arrived yet. But, it arrived a few hours after you replied. One more question: Is the DVD in the information packet supposed to be blank or have stuff on it? The one that arrived with the packet is empty.

  22. Are there any other specifications for boots besides just 6- or 8-inch boots? Are we supposed to have steel toe?

    • Katharine, Steel toes are not needed. They must be all leather (except tongue and very top of boot can be of another material), no cortex and lace up (no zippers).

  23. Hi! I am considering going on this trip. Although, I do have medical problems. Nothing serious, but something that might limit my physical activity. Would this be a problem? Thanks. -Elizabeth B
