Greetings From The Navajo Boot Camp Team!

After a full day of work here at WIM on Friday, the team switched gears on Saturday and headed to our 2nd JMI 5k race in Crystal north of Window Rock. It was our first-morning outreach. The weather was perfect… cool and dry.  Some of the team participated in chair exercises for the elderly and some helped distribute fresh fruit and bottled water for the race coordinator as the runners finished the course. It was amazing to see a long line form at our booth giving many opportunities to share with kids and adults alike. Some children enjoyed the Good News coloring books while others learned the Gospel story in the Wordless Bracelets and Books. In some of the conversations, people were unsure where they’d spend eternity or hoped they were ‘good enough’. Some of the Navajo from the traditional background would say we are serving the same God. Please pray that God will remind those we spoke with of the verses shared and grow the seeds that were planted.  After we finished at the 5k race, the team enjoyed a picnic lunch at Canyon de Chelley National Park and visited the various scenic overlooks. Our Creator does very good work!

On Sunday, we visited Sanders Bible Church, west of Gallup. The team shared two songs that included the guitar, ukulele, and violin. Emerald and May shared testimonies and the team performed the puppet song, “I’m so Glad” and the drama “Cage”. Our leader, Daniel, shared the morning message from Mark chapter 9. Meanwhile, some of the team handled Sunday School duties with the children and used the puppet drama about the Good Samaritan. They also shared the Good News Coloring Book.  After the service, the church provided Navajo Tacos with fry bread. It was great! Thanks so much for the food and fellowship.

On Monday, the team plans to move to a church near Bloomfield, New Mexico, east of Farmington where we plan to help with a sports camp the church is hosting for the youth. In the afternoons, we plan to do some work projects and visit some more JMI 5k races in that area. We’d appreciate your prayers for safe travels and fruitful ministry and work this coming week.

Testimonies from the team members:

Lydia — Coming live from here in New Mexico / Arizona. It’s been weird, why? Because,,, the weather won’t stop changing! Besides that… It’s been an amazing time sharing testimonies and such… I love the food! Mrs. Gay makes amazing recipes for us. Well… for those reading this, I hope your camp or life is going well too!

Liz — So, Saturday we went to our second JMI race. Once we all set up the table and tent, we started making balloon animals for the kids who crowded around the table. Some of us were still trying to figure out how to make them. We even had a request for a gorilla. We couldn’t quite fill that order! 🙂 Some of us then went out to do surveys and talk to the runners. Some of the conversations I had were interesting. May and I started taking a survey with one runner who asked to remain anonymous and they simply wanted to stick to the questions. It’s challenging when speaking to someone who isn’t quite comfortable talking about their religion… but God gives us challenges to overcome so we can grow closer to Him in our faith. He’s definitely given us lots of those situations, and I’m sure there will be more. Miss you all at home and those abroad. I’ve had an amazing 18th birthday. Love my team so much.
