Dear Partners in Ministry,
Bethany and I greet you from sunny Florida! After months of living out of boxes we are finally unpacked! It was exciting to unpack our things from Malawi and set up our new home in Florida. Minus a few things, everything made the journey back intact. We are blessed with constant running water and electricity, something we did not always have in Malawi.
Leaving Malawi was not an easy decision to make. However, we knew God was calling us back to the USA. The big question was what would God have us do next? The answer came shortly before Christmas, when Bethany and I were asked to oversee the BIBLE, MISSIONARY & WORK Training Center (BMW) here in Florida. We are so excited to be preparing future missionaries to go on the field!
This new job has us pretty busy, but we love working with the Bible school students as they grow in their walk with the Lord and prepare to be full-time missionaries around the world. We are about to send three new interns to Madagascar and receive one of our own back here in Florida! We got to welcome Cheyenne back to the USA this month! Cheyenne was one of our interns in Malawi before we left. It has been neat to see how God has used her over the last year in Malawi. It’s also been neat seeing everything come full circle. We went from welcoming interns from Florida and helping them adjust to life in Malawi, to preparing others to leave and helping those coming back to readjust to life back in the U.S.
We’re not going to lie, our hearts are still in “The Warm Heart of Africa,” and we keep in contact with the staff there. About two years ago, the staff in Malawi came to Bethany and me asking to go to other places in Malawi that still had not heard the message of hope. Bethany and I were not sure at the time if we could manage more locations. However, we started to plan to add Sunday schools to areas that had not yet heard the Gospel. One of our staff men went in search for a new group of villages that was hungry for God’s Word. He traveled to a very remote village called Nalunga and found the village chief. He explained that we wanted to start a Sunday School for the village to bring the Gospel message. The chief immediately said yes and jumped for joy at the sound of missionaries coming to his village. They have now opened a new MSSM bicycle Circuit. We have heard that many kids and adults are attending the Sunday schools.
Since Bethany and I are now back in the USA, we will be able to, once again, lead teams during the summer. We were hoping to go back to Malawi with a summer team, but at this time we don’t want to risk me getting malaria. So instead, we have been asked to lead the team going to Mongolia. It’s a big change from Malawi, but we are looking forward to what the summer has in store for us.
Thank you so much for standing with Bethany and me. As we look back over 2017, we can see so many ways God carried us through. We could not have done it without you all standing with us, and helping pray us through. Thank you for being a part of our sending team.
We leave you with a quote from Mary Slessor (missionary in Nigeria, Africa):
Mary Slessor wrote to a friend who had long prayed for her: “I have always said that I have no idea how or why God has carried me over so many funny and hard places, and made these hordes of people submit to me, or why the government should have given me the privilege of a Magistrate among them, except in answer to prayer made at home for me. It is all beyond my comprehension. The only way I can explain it is on the grounds that I have been prayed for more than most. Pray on, dear one — the power lies that way.”
On another occasion she wrote: “Prayer is the greatest power God has put into our hands for service — praying is harder than doing, at least I find it so, but the dynamic lies that way to advance the Kingdom.”

Josiah and Bethany Frey
