Dear Friends & Family,
As we write this update from sunny Florida, we pray that the warm weather has made its way to you as well!
Things are moving along quickly here at the base and Tanner and I have had the privilege of being involved in several new areas of ministry this spring, the first of those being the Teen Missions Mud Run! Tanner and another staff guy were asked to be in charge of the Mud Run back in January. Since then they have been doing a lot of learning, preparing, and promoting. This will be the fourth year that we have had the Mud Run and it has become quite a hit down here in our community! This year it will be held on May 4th and we are already hearing about all of the Star Wars-themed costumes in the process of being created. Tanner has enjoyed the process of learning what goes into putting on an event like this and has had several other staff people jump in to help where needed. If you are at all interested in volunteering on the day of the run or even running it, please contact us! All of the proceeds go to help fund our overseas bases where our staff are working hard each day to share the Gospel and disciple the students in the Bible schools. Also, at the end of the run you can donate your muddy shoes and we will clean them and send them off to be shared at those bases!
Teach Them Diligently Conference
In late March Tanner and I both had the opportunity to travel with 15 other TMI representatives to Rogers, AR to work in the youth program of the Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Conference. For the first time, Teen Missions will be represented at all seven of these conferences and we are running the Teen Program and co-running the Children’s Program at three of them. Rogers was the first one of those three and it was such a success! Our Promotions Department had developed a curriculum for the teens based on finding their Identity in Christ, and was also able to share with them about what we do as a ministry. The rest of us worked with the children under the leadership of some senior students from Bob Jones University. Tanner and I both were placed as leaders for the 3rd-5th graders and had a blast playing games, learning more about the kids, and seeing them grow in the Word of God as they learned more about diving deeper into their faith.
It was an incredibly long drive to get there. However, we enjoyed being able to rest in the hotel provided for us and also had the neat privilege to meet Ray Comfort! We had seen several of Ray’s videos throughout our Advanced Evangelism class. Overall, even though it was tiring work, we enjoyed being able to rest and refresh before returning to the base and jumping back into our normal routines.
College & Career Ministry
Another area of ministry that Tanner and I are excited to be a part of is the College & Career Ministry at our church in Titusville, FL. Probably around two months ago now, we were asked if we would be willing to take over this ministry starting in the fall of this year. After some time of prayer and consideration, we agreed! Although we have a lot of experience in working with groups and discipleship, we are interested to see how this new dynamic of ministry stretches us in the next year. Please pray for us as we seek out direction from the Lord on how to lead these young adults in our community and how we can be pouring into their lives. In order for us to do that, we must also be constantly filled with the love of Jesus. Please pray that we would be diligent in our personal devotions and relationship with Him.
Now an update on our summer team! Since our last newsletter was sent out things have changed, surprise! Tanner and I were asked to lead the Ecuador team rather than the Madagascar team. Tanner has never been to Africa and has been trying for years to go so he was disappointed initially, but we have seen God’s provision through several circumstances that had allowed us to have not only peace with this change, but also excitement for what the summer will bring. Throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school experience I had taken eight years of Spanish classes. This will be my first time traveling to a country that I will be able to use that knowledge in! We will be serving in Manta, Ecuador, and work with a local church in developing a youth camp. Out team will be working on projects such as laying the concrete floor, painting, and setting the roof on the new building. We will be very close to the beach which will be great, not only for swimming and enjoying the area, but also evangelism opportunities!
Our team is currently full with 24 teenagers who will be going with us this summer. We have been praying for these individuals for months now and ask that you would also join us. We are praying for some specific things over this trip: growth, passion, miracles, and vision. These are the things that God has really laid on our hearts and we do not know how we will see them come to be, but pray that our team would encounter Jesus in a way that they never have before. Lastly, we are still in need of a male assistant leader. Please pray that God would bring the right person to lead with Tanner and I to Ecuador.
After the summer, Tanner and I will be taking two weeks to travel to North Carolina and Michigan to share about our summer and also the work that we do year round with Teen Missions. We are looking for places to speak over these two weeks. This could be in a church service, youth group, small group, homeschool co-op, or even in your home for a ‘Missions at my place’! If you would be interested in allowing us to speak in some type of event such as these, please contact us!
We will be leaving from Florida on August 17th, making our way to North Carolina. Then, on the 23rd of August we will be starting towards Michigan. We will be leaving Michigan on the 30th of August. We would love to meet any of you in the middle of these routes, let us know and we will do our best to get you on our schedule!
We want to thank you all for your prayers for us and for the support that we have received as we have gone full-time with Teen Missions. What we do, what Teen Missions does, are not possible without partners in the body of Christ. We pray for you also as you go and share the shining light of Jesus wherever you are.
