Oscar & Maureen Chama Newsletter (Winter 2020)

Dear  Friends and Family,

Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ! We pray and hope that you are well.  We are fine and the Lord has been so gracious to us and to the ministry. It has been a while since we communicated to you about what God is doing here in Zambia.

We thank the Lord for Dewey and Joann Clark who have been our faithful supporters since we started serving the Lord in 2001 as Teen Missions staff. Dewey went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2019. Keep Joann in your prayers as she is struggling to come to terms with the loss of Dewey. Dewey is enjoying the presence of the Lord, whom he so dearly loved and served while he was on Earth. Till we meet again.

We thank God for you and your faithfulness in helping us, both prayerfully and financially. Your help has allowed us to continue helping the orphans, as well as reach out to the vulnerable and lost in this part of Africa. Without your support it would be impossible for us to continue ministering to the orphans as we are doing. Your partnership has allowed us to reach out and help hundreds of people, and we are grateful to you and to God.

VARIOUS WORK

We have been really busy with the work the last three years and this last year was just as busy. We thank the Lord that the ministry has been growing and many people are coming to the Lord on a daily basis. In the last three years we have been working on building the dormitories and classroom for the Bible school in Mansa which is in the northern part of the country. This past December I was working on another dorm for the same Bible school as we had more people wanting to come to the Bible school than we had space. So we decided to build another dorm so we could allow more to come. We currently have 19 students in our Mansa Bible school and over 40 students in our Ndola Bible school. We have also built a Rescue Unit for the orphans up in Lake Mweru area at Kabuta village where we are helping over 800 orphans.  We now have 16 Rescue Units, helping over 5,000 orphans and three girls’ dormitories helping over 300 girls who have left their villages in hope of acquiring education. The girls used to be abused by the men in the communities around the school and many ended up pregnant. Only about 2% of those would end up finishing their education. Since we built the dormitories for the girls, we have seen a huge improvement in the success of their education. We have our Bible school graduates overseeing the girls as Matrons and they conduct evening devotions where the Gospel is preached daily and many of these girls have come to Christ.

SUNDAY SCHOOLS

In this area we have built 20 shelters for 21 Sunday schools that we are running. Literally thousands are hearing the Gospel message each week and hundreds are coming to the Lord. Maureen has been working in the Rescue Unit and Sunday school department of which I am the head. Maureen has really been instrumental in preparing the Sunday school material. She makes over 50,000 copies of crafts for the kids to colour and over 2,000 copies for Sunday school lessons every 13 weeks. This has been a great tool we are using to reach the lost. We are literally reaching over 3,000 people each week with the Gospel of Christ through Sunday schools. We have 98 Sunday school reaching out everyday except Sunday and Mondays.

SCHOOL NEEDS

Our girls are doing well and we thank God for all the prayers you offer on behalf of our family. We thank God for the education support for the girls. The girls keep on working hard at school. Tehillah, our first born daughter, is now doing 12th grade this year. Chimwemwe, our second born daughter, just made it to grade 8 this year after getting 736 out of 1000 points.  Comfort, our third born daughter, is now doing 2nd grade this year. We are thankful to God and to you for all the support you have given us that enables our girls access to education. Each year we have to raise $910 to meet the girls’ school needs. We are asking that you prayerfully consider helping with our girls’ education needs. Any amount towards this will be highly appreciated.

We thank you for your continued support and prayers. Should you desire to support us in any way please send your support to Teen Missions and Teen Missions will forward it to us.

May the good Lord richly bless you.

In Christ’s service,

The Chamas
